The Academy Is.....

It's Oscar time again. Today the nominees for the 81st Academy Awards were announced. Some shockers, some upsets, and some that everyone knew.

The one that everyone has been talking about for about a year now is Heath Ledger's performance of The Joker, in this summer's The Dark Knight. I'm happy to say that one the one year anniversary of this death, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. I was also happy to see Robert Downey Jr to be nominated for Tropic Thunder, I thought his role was very comedic and brilliantly played. I doubt he'll win though, due to it being a comedy and Heath Ledger. Speaking of The Dark Knight, it also has the year's biggest upsets, no nod for Best Picture or Best Director. I think it's a crime no nod for Best Director as Christopher Nolan honestly earned this as it was AMAZING direction. As for best picture, I don't know if it should win, but I thought it was better than Benjamin Button. It has some stiff competition though. Frost/Nixon, Milk and Slumdog Millionaire were great movies. I haven't seen The Reader, and I thought Benjamin Button was decent.

As for performances, I don't have any complains. I haven't seen all the movies, but from what I've seen the actors and actress who were nominated deserve it. Maybe James Franco instead of Josh Brolin for Milk, but they were both very good. I have no idea what Wall-E is doing for best original screen play. I thought it was okay for a kids movie, but there's hardly any dialogue, and once again I think Dark Knight should be on there for adapted screenplay, but that's me.

That's all for now. Seems like a good list of nominations for this year. I'll post a list of my predictions closer to Oscar night. Be on the look out for the greatest music videos tomorrow.
